Dining review: Pho Nam in Haltom City|
Pho broth was salty, and not as rich as Pho 75. But very edible. I got the #1 and added meatballs. Meats were very good, veggie plate was fresh and abundant.|
The large mound of culantro ngo gai at upper right was actually from Pho Hoa Pasteur in Saigon. The tray that was holding it must have been about 10-12 inches in diameter and 2 inches deep! Not like the small saucer/plate we get around here. Actually over there you can count on getting huge portions of garnish. It’s expected to be provided.|
Pho Nam is also good but not as good as Pho 75.|
I have tried Le's and Pho Viet and I did not think either was particularly delicious.|
I do know that Pho 75 is excellent. Their broth is definitely the most flavorful, the meats are very well sliced, and the iced coffee (with condensed milk) is great - I always order it and I'm no coffee lover. Also, their side of onion in vinegar is surprisingly good - and one is enough for the table.|
Mr. Rao has been passionate about pho all his life, and will probably continue to be for a long time. In his hand is a book about the foods of Hanoi, written by the famous French culinary expert Didier Corlou. In it of course one can’t miss his [Chef Corlou’s] praise about pho by the family Co in Hanoi.|
That is sad to hear. I lived in the DC area back in the late nineties early 2000's and I was just about to post that Pho 75 was my go to and the best i've had in the states.|
Where's Pho Nam Nam?|
I've been doing a comparison on the ktown pho places and will post it on my blog soon. But like everyone said, of all the place i've tried.... pho 4000, pho 2000 and pho western... pho 4000 wins in the koreatown area. It is $1 less than its korean competitors and also offers the traditional rice paper-wrapped egg rolls, not chinese egg roll wrappers. i still have to try Pho 36, which USED to be WHAT THE PHO? and there's also Pho 5.5 ( i think) on western just behind E-moon oak (han bat's suhl lung tang rival).|
After a night of drinking and upchucking... I had to cure my hangover with a nice bowl of pho. I was headed to K-town already and didn't want to drive out of the way to the Valley so I headed to Pho 4000 that I've been meaning to try for a few weeks after I found out that it was owned by real Vietnamese people.|
I have to disagree. I don't think Pho Nam is as good as Pho 75. Their broth just never seems as rich to me. It wasn't bad (I've been twice, once weekday lunch and once weekend), but given the choice, I'd choose Pho 75.|
new place for Pho: Doson Noodle House on North Carrollton across the street from Venezia. Your choices are beef or chicken Pho. At $7.95, it's not the cheapest nor the best pho in town, but it's more convenient (for me at least) than the westbank or n.o. east.|
Pho Restaurants and Pho Recipes for Pho Lovers|
we would probably expect Pho 4000 to be at least twice as great as Pho 2000 but I can only give it a 5.|
